Woman, son die after house collapses in heavy rains

PALAKKAD: In a tragic incident, a woman and her son died after their house collapsed in the heavy rains that lashed the district. The dead have been identified as Sulochana (54), wife of late Sivan of Kottekkad Kodakunnu House, and Renjith (33). The fire brigade reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Alathur Hospital. The incident happened last night. Sulochana, a bed-ridden patient and her son Renjith were staying in the one-room house. Renjith was an employee of a private bus.

There was heavy rain in the area yesterday. The wall at the back of the house collapsed in the night and fell on them. However, no one knew about the incident. The people nearby knew about it only Tuesday early morning. Though they were taken to the hospital, their lives could not be saved. The locals said the two had decided to shift to another house following the rain and the accident happened in the meantime.
