VENPALAVATTOM: A woman died and two others, including a toddler, sustained serious injuries after a scooter fell off from a flyover in Venpalavattom in the capital city on Monday. The incident took place at 1 am on Monday noon. The deceased has been identified as Vellar native Simy (34). Her three-year-old daughter Shivanya and sister Sini (32) sustained serious injuries. The two are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of KIMS Hospital. The accident took place while they were returning from on a scooter after attending a death ceremony in Mayyanad in Kollam.

The CCTV visuals obtained from a nearby shop are frightening, showing the scooter losing balance from the flyover, leaving the three riders to fall on the service road from a considerable height. It was Sini who was driving the scooter. Simy, the pillion rider, hit her head straight into the nearby ditch on the fall. Shivanya was sitting between Sini and Simy.

Pettah police will soon start investigating by acquiring the nearby shops' CCTV visuals. It is assumed that the scooter first hit a divider before losing balance. There is big ambiguity as this road is not prone to accidents. Police will soon take details from the family and the injured to clear the air about the freak accident.
