Ayodhya Ram Temple replaces saffron uniform for priests; mobile phones banned

LUCKNOW: The Ayodhya Ram Temple Trust has issued new guidelines regarding the dress code of priests in the temple. The suggestion from the trust is to introduce a yellow colour for priests replacing the saffron one. Cell phones are also banned in the temple.

Earlier, saffron-coloured kurta, dhoti and turban were the attire of the priests of Ayodhya. The priests were also trained to use attires only made from cotton cloth. Taking notes from Sanatana Dharma, the trust clarified that the priests should wear clothes that cover the head and hands.

Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra stated that mobile phones have been banned as part of security measures. Recently, photos of water leaking inside the temple were circulated through social media inviting brickbats for the government. It is rumoured that the trust decided to ban mobile phones after facing such embarrassment.

Ayodhya Ram Temple currently has one chief priest, assisted by four others. There will also be 20 trainees. Puja time in the temple is from 3:30 am to 11 pm. The trust has also directed that each team of priests perform five hours of service in the temple.
