Inspection by Food Safety Dept; 107 establishments shut down

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 107 establishments were shut down during the inspections carried out by the Food Safety Department across the state as part of Operation Life. The action was taken after the establishments were found to have violated the food safety norms. Notices were issued to 835 eateries.

The Food Safety Department conducted inspections in 2644 establishments across the state. 134 squads participated in the inspection. Rectification notices were issued to 368 eateries and compounding notices to 458 eateries. Adjudication proceedings have also been initiated against 9 eateries. The officials inspected the health cards of employees, personal hygiene, water used for cooking etc.

The inspections were carried out as per the instructions of Minister Veena George as part of epidemic prevention. The inspections were conducted with the objective of assuring the hygiene of food businesses and the staff of hotels and restaurants in connection with monsoons.
