PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has sparked a controversy by shouting at a woman MLA amid aggressive protests by opposition members in the Assembly. Nitish Kumar's outburst came as the opposition MLAs were protesting on the issues of reservation and the special status of Bihar, and were not letting him speak. Irked by the protests, Nitish Kumar shouted at RJD MLA Rekha Paswan saying, "You are a woman, do you know anything? Sit down and listen."
Following this, Opposition members gathered in the well of the House and raised slogans against the Chief Minister.
Last month, the Patna High Court had struck down the Bihar government's move to raise the reservation limit in government jobs and educational institutions to 65 percent. Nitish Kumar said in the Assembly that the government has approached the Supreme Court regarding the verdict and that it has taken necessary steps. However, the opposition did not calm down after hearing this. Nitish Kumar shouted at the woman MLA when the protest continued their protest during the speech.
Senior RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said that making unnecessary, rude and degrading remarks against women has become a habit of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
"A few days ago, the Chief Minister had made a lewd comment about the beauty of a BJP woman MLA from the tribal community. Today, he made a comment on two-time Scheduled Caste woman MLA Rekha Paswan," Tejashwi Yadav said.
