THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 15 cases of amoebic meningoencephalitis have been reported in Kerala so far, Health Minister Veena George said on Wednesday. The minister said that two patients were discharged from the hospitals after recovering from the disease.

"Seven positive cases have been reported in Thiruvananthapuram district. One of them died on July 23. At present, 6 patients are admitted to the hospital. Two people are suspected to be infected and their samples are being tested," the minister said.

"Soon after the first case was reported, the health department conducted an investigation and discovered people suspected to be infected. The first person, who tested positive for the infection in Thiruvananthapuram, contracted the infection from a pond. More investigation was conducted in this regard.
