MARADU: The body of a girl, who went missing after falling into the river in Nettoor yesterday morning, was found by the evening. The body was caught in the net of the fishermen on Friday evening. Fida (16), the daughter of Nilambur native Feroze Khan and Mumtaz, fell into the river at the Nettoor Beach soccer area at around 6:30 am yesterday.

Fida, whose family lives in a rented house in Nettoor South Colony, went near the river yesterday morning to throw away the food waste in the river. It is believed that the girl fell into the river while washing the plate. Although the child's father and neighbour rushed to the spot after hearing her mother Mumtaz's loud cry, they were not able to save her. Following this, the Police, Tripunithura Fire Force, a scuba team from Ernakulam Gandhi Nagar station and Navy divers searched till yesterday evening.

By around 7 pm, the body was found two kilometres away from the child's house. The body got trapped in the net of the fishermen near Nettoor Kumbalam bridge. The body, which was taken out of the river, has been shifted to the mortuary of the Ernakulam General Hospital.

Fida was a Plus One student of Gopinatha Menon Memorial Higher Secondary School, Panangad. Her father Feroze Khan is a fishmonger. Mother Mumtaz is a textile shop employee in Panangad. Fida's younger sisters Hina and Nida are also studying at Gopinatha Menon Memorial High School, Panangad.
