CHANDIGARH: Polling for Haryana assembly elections is in progress. According to the figures till three o'clock, 49.1 percent polling was recorded. The polling for the elections in 90 constituencies is being conducted in a single phase.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda and wrestler Vinesh Phogat are prominent in the competition. Apart from BJP and Congress, AAP, BSP, JJP and SP are also in the fray.

The date of Haryana assembly elections was shifted from October 1 to October 5, keeping in view the traditional celebration of the Bishnoi sect. The Haryana unit of the BJP had requested the Election Commission to change the date of the election in view of the celebrations. The party also pointed out that the coming of celebrations and consecutive holidays will affect the polls but the Congress mocked that the BJP's move was a defeat in sight. Counting of votes is on October 8. The exit poll results will be out after 6 pm today.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former chief minister and Congress candidate from Garhi Sampla Kiloi constituency, responded to the media during the polls saying that the Congress is coming and the BJP is going but BJP leader and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that even if the Congress can win some contests, it will not be able to come to power. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been doing great work in Haryana for the past ten years. Rijiju also criticized the Congress for 70 years only making false promises.
