NILAMBUR: Latest reports suggest that around 10 people have died in Kavalappara due to landslides. PV Anwar MLA has informed that 4 dead bodies have been discovered from the ruins on Friday evening.

According to locals, the death toll may increase as around 30 people are feared to be trapped between the ruins. Many houses were destroyed and severe rain is making rescue operations almost impossible. MLA Anwar has posted that the situation is getting worse as both flash floods and landslides are occurring simultaneously in the region. He also informed that almost 1000 people have been moved to various relief camps across Malappuram district. The MLA has also opened a 24-hour help desk at his MLA office to facilitate rescue operations.
