THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The team from Kerala has removed most of the hospital waste from Kerala dumped in the villages of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. 20 loads of garbage were removed yesterday and the rest will be removed today. The removed waste will be transported to the godowns of Clean Kerala Company in the Kollam, Palakkad, Ernakulam, and Malappuram districts, segregated and processed.
Tonnes of hospital waste from Kerala were dumped in Kondanagaram, Palavoor, Kodanallur and Melathediyoor villages in Tirunelveli. There were massive protests against this in Tamil Nadu. Following the national green tribunal's ultimatum, a 70-member team led by Thiruvananthapuram assistant collector Sakshi Mohan reached Tamil Nadu with lorries to clear the garbage.
The team includes clean Kerala company employees and Thiruvananthapuram corporation employees. As the lorries from here were not enough, lorries in Tamil Nadu were also set up. Health, panchayat and pollution control officials from Tamil Nadu were also present at the spot. The chief secretary will inform the Green Tribunal today that the waste has been removed.
