KOZHIKODE: Abhinand embarks on a new chapter in life, holding the memories of his father close to his heart. As he stepped out of his home in the morning, surrounded by friends and relatives, there stood the statue of Chandrasekharan in the courtyard, pointing to the skies. Paying his respects to his father, Abhinand boarded the car to the wedding hall, overwhelmed by a sea of memories.
Yesterday marked the wedding of Abhinand, the son of RMP leader and martyr TP Chandrasekharan and KK Rema, MLA. The venue was situated just 200 meters from Vallikkad near Vellikulangara in Vadakara, the blood-stained ground where TP Chandrasekharan was brutally murdered. Throughout the ceremony, the memories of TP lingered. Thousands attended, including prominent figures from Kerala’s political and cultural arenas, as well as family and friends.
When TP was murdered on May 4, 2012, Abhinand was a Plus Two student. Today, he is an engineer at JSW in Mumbai. The bride, Riya Harindran from Chathamangalam Vattoli, works in finance at Godrej in Kozhikode. When preparing the wedding invitation, Kerala had one pressing question for Rema: whether CPM leaders would be invited. She responded that everyone who loved TP would be invited, except for a few who were unforgivable.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Speaker AN Shamseer, CPM MLA U Prathibha, and TP’s close friend and former CPM MP Suresh Kurup, along with their families.
Although CPM State Secretary MV Govindan and other state leaders were invited, they could not attend due to a CPM state secretariat meeting in Kochi. Some speculated whether the meeting in Kochi was scheduled deliberately to avoid attending the marriage. Meanwhile, the presence of CPI ministers and leaders underscored their solidarity with TP’s legacy.
The wedding venue was graced by several prominent figures in Kerala politics. Union Minister Suresh Gopi, ministers Chinchurani, P Prasad, and K Rajan, Deputy Speaker Chittayam Gopakumar, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, MPs Shashi Tharoor, MK Raghavan, and Shafi Parambil, MLAs PK Kunhalikutty, Ramesh Chennithala, and Rahul Mankootathil, and former MPs K Muraleedharan and Mullappally Ramachandran were among the many leaders who attended.
