CHENNAI: Famous Tamil actress Pushpalatha (87) passed away at her residence in Chennai following old age ailments. She was the wife of actor and producer A V M Rajan. Pushpalatha made her debut in Tamil film 'Chenkottai Singam' released in 1958.
She has acted in more than 100 films with prominent actors such as M G Ramachandran (MGR) and Sivaji Ganesan. Apart from Tamil, she has also acted in films in Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada languages. She played notable roles in films like Rajinikanth's 'Naan Adimai Illai', Kamal Haasan's 'Kalyanaraman' and 'Sakalakala Vallavan'.
She was a model for Lux soap advertisements in 1964. She fell in love with AVM Rajan during the shooting of the film 'Naanum Oru Pennu' and later the two got married. The couple has two daughters.
Pushpalatha has acted in many films since 1970. She last acted in the film 'Poovasam' starring Murali in 1999. She later took a break from films. Many from the Tamil film industry paid tributes to the actress. She will be laid to rest in Chennai today.
