CHENNAI: A new directive is in place to restrict private vehicles heading to tourist hotspot Ooty and Kodaikanal. The Madras High Court imposed restrictions on vehicles after the government delayed submitting the number of vehicles reaching the hill stations and the associated study report.
Considering the summer season, Ooty is open to 6,000 tourist vehicles on weekdays and 8,000 vehicles on weekends. Only 4,000 tourist vehicles are allowed to enter Kodaikanal on weekdays and 6,000 vehicles on weekends. This does not apply to tourists travelling on government buses and trains. Vehicles carrying agricultural products and passenger vehicles are not subject to the regulation.
The court order will be implemented from April 1 and will remain in effect till June.
