THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has approved the implementation of a system for recording punching attendance through a mobile application that recognises the face (face recognition). The new system will be implemented in all government, semi-government, autonomous and grant-in-aid institutions in the state. The government's order comes after the successful implementation of this system developed by NIC on a trial basis.

The move is part of the implementation of the Aadhaar-based Spark-linked biometric punching system. The face recognition punching machines are equipped with L-Zero-based sensors. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has directed that all devices be converted to L-One-based sensors to enhance the security of this system. The order also states that the above system should be implemented immediately in all offices where salary bills are prepared through Spark and the machines have not yet been installed and connected to Spark.

Offices that currently use the machines can continue until they are rendered inoperable. The face recognition mobile application can also be used with it. The authorities believe that there will be no need to switch to L1 if this system works successfully. One does not need a phone with internet access to register attendance using the face recognition application. One can also register attendance using someone else's phone as well.
