New KPCC leadership set to assume office today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new office-bearers of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will officially take charge at Indira Bhavan at 9:30 a.m. today.

Ahead of assuming office, the new KPCC President, Sunny Joseph MLA, along with Working Presidents A.P. Anil Kumar, P.C. Vishnunath, and Shafi Parambil, arrived in the state capital yesterday evening. They visited senior leaders for blessings and paid floral tributes at the memorials of departed leaders. Adoor Prakash, who was appointed UDF Convener, also visited senior leaders and paid respects at the memorial of Oommen Chandy on Friday.

AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal MP will inaugurate the formal, simple function at the KPCC headquarters in the presence of senior leaders. K. Sudhakaran MP will preside over the event. AICC General Secretary Deepa Dasmunsi, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, Congress Working Committee members, AICC Secretaries, former KPCC Presidents, Political Affairs Committee members, KPCC office-bearers, DCC Presidents, MPs, and MLAs will attend.

Sunny Joseph, P.C. Vishnunath, A.P. Anil Kumar, and Shafi Parambil also paid floral tributes at the memorial of leader K. Karunakaran in Thrissur, at the tomb of Oommen Chandy in Kottayam, and the memorial of R. Sankar in Kollam. Sunny Joseph said that R. Sankar was a highly respected Congress leader, and all the departed leaders firmly upheld the ideals and goals of the Congress, demonstrated excellence in governance, and laid the foundation for Kerala's development.


They also visited NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and Changanassery Archbishop Thomas Tharayil. Afterwards, they reached Pathanamthitta to pay their last respects to the late DCC Vice President M.G. Kannan. Before reaching the capital, the leaders visited former KPCC President C.V. Padmarajan in Kollam. Today, before assuming office, they will meet Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony.
