THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “I am now certain that my colleagues won’t stand by me. Many continue to spread false propaganda. The evidence of what happened to me is on my face. Yet, some behave as if I injured myself,” says junior lawyer J.V. Shyamili in an emotional voice message sent to the Bar Association, expressing her anguish at being isolated after the alleged brutal assault by senior lawyer Bailin Das.
She reiterated that she has not made any false statements against the Bar Association or its secretary and stated that while her colleagues may have abandoned her, the people of Kerala are standing with her. “If the media is supporting me, I am with them. No matter how powerful a senior may be, he won’t be able to touch me again,” she said in the audio clip.
Meanwhile, Shyamili told the media that she doesn’t know how the voice message got leaked. “I did not intend it for everyone in the Bar Association. There are many who are speaking up for me, and I am thankful to them,” she added.
Bailin Das's bail plea: Court to pronounce verdict tomorrow
The court will pronounce its verdict tomorrow on the bail plea of Bailin Das, the accused in the case of assaulting junior lawyer J.V. Shyamili. The First Class Judicial Magistrate Court heard detailed arguments from both sides yesterday. The defence argued that it was the complainant who provoked the incident. They claimed Bailin intervened in a dispute between junior lawyers at the office and that Shyamili initiated the confrontation. They also contended that the attack was not deliberate, and there was no sexual intent or insult to womanhood involved.
The prosecution strongly opposed the bail plea, maintaining that it was indeed a serious incident involving the humiliation of a woman. They also expressed concerns about the possibility of evidence being destroyed and witnesses or the victim being influenced.
