KOCHI: The fee for updating the information recorded in Aadhaar, including biometrics, has been increased. Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5 to 7 and again between 15 to 17 years old and getting a new Aadhaar regardless of age, are free of cost. This update is recommended to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the child's biometric data.
Name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, photo, fingerprint, and retina data in Aadhaar can be updated.
The rates are being increased in two phases. The first increase will be effective from October 1, 2028 to September 30, 2028. The second increase will be effective from October 1, 2028 to September 30, 2031. Those above 17 years of age will have to pay Rs 125 for biometric renewal from this October, and Rs 150 from October 2028.

Aadhaar entrepreneurs said that the amount transferred by the UID Authority to the State IT Mission as remuneration to Aadhaar operators has not been disbursed since 2023, and the service centres are in crisis due to this.
