Small relief for Congress despite massive trounce in Bihar; consolation victory in Telangana by-election

HYDERABAD: Comforting news from the southern region for the Congress, which is facing defeat in Bihar. Congress candidate Naveen Yadav has won the by-election in Jubilee Hills in Telangana. Jubilee Hills is one of the 15 constituencies in Hyderabad. Naveen Yadav won with a majority of 24,729 votes.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Maganti Sunitha Gopinath is in second place with 74,259 votes. BJP's Deepak Reddy Lankala is in third place with 17,061 votes. Naveen Yadav thanked the voters who gave him a huge victory by reposing their faith in him. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar said that this victory is a recognition of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's rule.

The by-election was held following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. The party, which was earlier Telangana Rashtra Samithi, later changed to Bharat Rashtra Samithi. The current candidate is Sunita, who is Maganti Gopinath's wife. Voting in Jubilee Hills was also held on November 11. Officials said that 48.49 percent turnout from a total of 4.01 lakh eligible voters was recorded in the polling.
