KOCHI: It has been confirmed that the body found in the marshy area in Kalamassery is that of Suraj Lama, aged 58. The one-month-old body was found in an isolated area on November 30. The DNA results were obtained after two months. Lama’s son Santon Lama has reached Kochi.
The police will submit the DNA test results in the Kerala High Court today. The police conducted the investigation after a habeas corpus plea was filed by Santon Lama seeking to trace his father. Santon Lama said there was a major negligence from all departments including the airport authority, police, hospital, and that he lost his father due to the failure of all these systems.
Suraj Lama, a native of Kolkata, came to Bengaluru years ago. In the meantime, he went to Kuwait and was into restaurant business. He was a victim of Kuwait’s methanol poisoning tragedy. He regained his life after ten days of treatment but had memory loss. In the meantime, he was deported from Kuwait on October 4, citing that his visa had expired. Instead of Bengaluru, he was sent to Kochi. His family or friends were not informed about it.
Santon Lama then reached Kerala and started searching for his father. Suraj Lama, who came to the attention of the police in Kalamassery, was admitted to the medical college but went missing again from there. His son alleged that this is a serious lapse on the part of the officials and government institutions. Meantime, since the body is in a very decomposed state, the family has decided to perform the last rites in Kerala itself.
