THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: During these difficult times of COVID-19 pandemic, there is no shortage of messages spreading misinformation about the disease. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come to the fore against such misinformation without any scientific basis.

"Do not spread messages regarding the disease that has no scientific basis. What's needed is vigil which has the value of life itself", CM Vijayan told the media.

The minister said that there is no medicine for this disease and the vaccine is not yet developed.

Some claims out there in the public that one can boost immunity by developing a minor disease like the common cold, COVID isn't dangerous for children are baseless.

Some others say that this disease will only affect a part of the population, you won't catch the disease again once you have it, only people with other health conditions die due to COVID-19. All these are unscientific claims, CM Vijayan said.

It takes 12 to 18 months to ensure the efficacy of a vaccine. It's been only six months since the research into the COVID-19 vaccine began. It'll take more time. Let's hope science can make the medicine available as soon as possible, CM Vijayan added.
