Man gives poison to wife and three children, attempts suicide; wife and two children dead

KOLLAM: A man attempted suicide after giving poison to his wife and three children. While his wife and two children died, the eldest child survived. The father remains in critical condition. The deceased are Munroe island native Varsha (26), her children Alan (5) and Aarav (3 months). Varsha's husband Edward (41) is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kollam.

The incident took place at Edward's rented house in Keralapuram at around 5.30 pm on Tuesday. It is learnt that Varsha and the children were given a poisoned drink. A suicide note was found at the house. According to sources, Edward had a heated argument with Varsha following which the neighbours intervened to pacify them. The suicide attempt came to light when a close relative reached the house. Following this, Edward, Varsha and the children were rushed to the private hospital in Kollam. The two children died before reaching the hospital. Later, Varsha too died while she was being shifted to another hospital in Kollam.

The eldest child told the police that she was also given the drink but she did not drink it as it tasted bad. Syringes were also recovered from the house. Edward is an employee of a private medical shop in Kundara.
