Two-day strike: KSRTC suffers loss of Rs 9 crore

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The unions began a two-day strike at a time when passengers were returning to public transport and KSRTC's revenue was increasing accordingly. Considering the revenue generated on the eve of the strike, KSRTC will incur a loss of nearly Rs 9 crore due to the strike. This loss is huge for the KSRTC, which has been depending on the government for everything. However, unions are claiming that the strike was inevitable as the authorities had been ignoring their demands for so long.

With people, who were initially reluctant to board buses due to fear of Covid, returning to buses, the daily collection of the KSRTC had increased to over Rs 4.5 crore on the eve of the strike. That is when the unions declared a strike.

Public transport began functioning in mid-June after the second lockdown. Although KSRTC operated more than a thousand bus services in the early days, passengers were reluctant to board the buses. More people started to board the buses as the number of people receiving the vaccine increased and the number of infected people decreased.
