THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI has demanded the release of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the K-Rail project. It will convey this to CPM during the bilateral talks. The party will take a final decision on the project after going through the DPR. According to sources, the CPI decided to demand the release of DPR due to pressure from within the party.
Earlier, the CPI had supported the K-Rail project by stating that the project was part of the LDF's manifesto. However, severe criticism was raised against the project in the CPI state council that convened last week. Several party leaders, including former minister VS Sunil Kumar, came out against the project. Following this, the party decided to demand the DPR of the project.
CPI has informed that it was withdrawing from its earlier unconditional support for the project. Sources said that CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran would convey the demand directly. Meanwhile, the government has not yet commented on the matter. K-Rail MD had said that the DPR was a confidential document and that its release would affect the security of the project.
