Kannur University: Appointment of board of studies members is illegal, HC upholds Governor's stance

kk

KOCHI: A division bench of the Kerala High Court has ruled that the appointment of the board of studies members in Kannur University was illegal. The division bench made the observation while passing an interim order after reviewing a petition challenging the appointment. The High Court made the observation by approving the Governor's affidavit, which stated that the Chancellor was the one who has the authority to nominate members of the board of studies.

The court observed that the order issued by the Registrar-in-charge appointing members of the board of studies was prima facie a violation of the University Rules. The governor had also stated in his affidavit that the rules were violated in the appointment of the board of studies.

The court also ordered to issue notice to the board of studies members. The court will consider the case again on January 17.

The petition was filed by senate member Vijayakumar and Academic Council member Shino P Jose.
