THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IAS officer M Sivasankar, who was reinstated after his suspension, has been given the charge of Sports and Youth Welfare by the Chief Secretary. Sivasankar, who is accused of having links with the accused in the gold smuggling case, was suspended for a year and a half.

He was the former Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and former Principal Secretary of IT Department.

Sivasankar's suspension was lifted two days ago. As Wednesday was a local holiday in Thiruvananthapuram, he returned to duty this morning and reported to Chief Secretary VP Joy. The order was issued to him in the afternoon.

APM Mohammad Haneesh, Principal Secretary of Industry and Public Education, is currently in charge of the Sports and Youth Welfare Departments. Haneesh was given additional charge after Sharmila Mary Joseph went on leave. It is now handed over to Sivasankar.
