THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adani group has given indications regarding the reopening of the duty free shop in Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, that was earlier closed down. It is co-partnered by Dubai based Fleming way company and recently 75% of its shares were bought by Adani group. The delay in getting Customs clearance has lagged the reopening.
Suitable location for a new duty free shop was found near the old one. A duty free shop in Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is a long time wish of international passengers. Adani group expects an increase in their income with this decision. The duty free shop remains closed down since 2018.
The duty free shop was closed down by Customs due to illegal sales of liquor by misusing the traveller data. CEO and employees, of Plus Max Company that undertook the functioning of duty free, were arrested. Misappropriation of funds of six crore rupees were found and a complaint was raised against the employees for attacking Customs officials.
