THIRUVANATHAPURAM: India celebrates its 73rd Republic day on Wednesday. The celebrations were amidst stringent restrictions on account of the rapid spread of Covid-19 in the state. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan unfurled the national flag at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
“The Covid period has proven India’s strength. The Kerala model in the field of basic development and vaccination is a matter of pride for the whole country’’, said the governor.
The governor also congratulated the chief minister of the state, citing the achievements in NITI Aayog health index. Only 100 invitees took part in the ceremony. Ministers were in charge of the celebrations in the districts. A maximum of 50 people was allowed to participate in district level programmes. Only 50 were allowed in sub-divisional, block level programmes whereas, 25 people were allowed to take part in programmes organised at the panchayat, municipal and corporation. The general public, children and elderly were not permitted to participate in the celebrations.
