Student from Tamil Nadu joins Ukraine armed forces to fight Russia, reveals family

CHENNAI: Reports said an Indian student who went to Ukraine for higher studies has joined Ukraine armed forces to fight against Russia. 21-year-old Sainikhesh Ravichandran from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu joined the Army of Ukraine. Ravichandran joined national aerospace university in Kharkiv for higher studies in 2018. He was to return home after completing his studies this year.

The family lost contact with Sainikhesh after Russia’s attack in Ukraine. The family then informed the embassy and they found him in an investigation conducted. However, Sainikhesh told his family that his decision is to fight against Russia and informed his family to have joined the Ukrainian paramilitary forces.

Sainikhesh had earlier tried to join the Indian Army twice but was rejected both times due to his height.
