NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court granted bail to Martin Antony, the second accused in the actress attack case. The apex court rejected government’s claim that the accused should not be granted bail till the completion of the investigation in the murder conspiracy case.
The court observed that Martin had been in prison for five years and that several other accused had been granted bail. It is not clear when the trial in the case will be completed. The court therefore granted bail to Martin as well.
A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and A S Oka granted him bail. The court also rejected government's demand for strict bail conditions. The Supreme Court said the bail conditions could be decided by the trial court.
Martin Antony drove the actress' vehicle on the day of the attack. The government claimed that Martin is involved in the case and otherwise the actress would not have been attacked. The government had pointed that if Martin is granted bail, the first accused, Pulsar Suni, would also approach the court.
