LOS ANGELES: Will Smith became emotional on the Oscars stage after attacking host Chris Rock at the ceremony. He publicly apologized to the Academy after winning the Best Actor Award for his performance in King Richard.
“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment. I’m not crying for winning an award, it’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine light on all of the people. Art imitates life, I look like the crazy father just like they said about Mr. Williams. Love makes you do crazy things.”
Will Smith had slapped host Chris Rock for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. As Chris made a joke about Jada, Will came on to the stage and hit him in the face. He said it was a joke but shouted twice after returning to his seat. Chris joking about Jada Smith’s hairstyle had made Will angry and triggered the attack.
