THRISSUR: There will be no Covid restrictions for this year’s Thrissur Pooram, said Minister K Radhakrishnan. Even though there are no restrictions, self-protection, including masks and sanitizers, should be ensured, said the minister at an all party meeting on Sunday. The minister also assured that the financial crises of Devaswom boards will be resolved.
The government intervention comes amid the assessment that the two year’s Covid crisis had created extra financial burden for the Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu Devaswom boards. Steps have been taken to resolve maximum disputes, said the minister. Money will be found for food and barricade in Thekkinkadu Maidanam. Around 15 lakh people are expected for the Pooram this year. Permission has been granted for conducting fireworks as in previous years.
Thrissur Pooram is on May 10. In the last two years, Pooram could not be conducted according to proper ceremonies and rituals due to the pandemic. Last year, Pooram-related ceremonies were held, but no one was allowed entry into the festival area. However, all the Pooram lovers shall have access to the Pooram ground, this year.
