Debate in capital city, protests against stone laying in CM’s hometown, authorities to move forward

KANNUR: Strong protests are being staged in Kannur against the laying of stones for K Rail amidst the debate in the capital city. The stones were laid at Muzhuppilangad panchayat coming under Edakkad police station limits. The Congress workers came protesting shortly after the authorities arrived to lay the stones. The police arrested and removed them from the place. People including women protested before the police vehicle. The laying of stones which stopped the other day resumed this morning.

The authorities arrived to lay stones in a residential area. The protesters blocked the authorities when they came to lay the stones in an unoccupied house in the area. The family came later and informed their dissatisfaction in laying the stones. Protesters also made it clear that the action will not be allowed without the consent of the owners. However, the authorities laid the stones amidst the protests. The owners had informed to remove it.

The protesters are against the K rail. They said they were not informed earlier. However, the survey authorities said they have only the survey number and were not able to inform earlier. They said they will move forward with their act.

Meantime, the debate organized by K Rail is progressing at the Hotel Taj Vivanta. Railway Board member Subodh Jain, former VC of the Technical University Dr Kuncheria and Thiruvananthapuram Chamber of Commerce President S N Reghuchandran Nair will speak in favour of the Silver Line. Only Dr RVG Menon is in the panel opposing the project.
