KOCHI: The KSRTC has clarified in the High Court that only 920 buses have been shifted to be condemned and the allegation that 2800 buses are being destroyed by rust is not true. Of these, 681 are regular buses and 239 are jenram buses. The explanation is given in the petition filed by Kasargod native Raveendran. The petition will be considered again today.

Chief Law Officer PN Hena says in the explanation that parts like engine, gear box and battery of the buses will be removed. These buses are 10-19 years old. The auction is being conducted through the Metal Scrap Trading Corporation, a central public sector undertaking.

KSRTC expects to receive 750 new buses this year. These buses are being condemnedin view of the need for parking and other space. KSRTC said that janram buses are not suitable for cities in Kerala and they are a liability.
