Man beats daughters to death for questioning his liquor consumption

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu police have arrested a man who killed his daughters for questioning his liquor consumption. The horrific incident took place in the Kanchipuram district. Madhurappakkam village native Govindaraj (40) killed his daughters Nandini (16) and Deepa (9) after they asked him to stop drinking and assaulting their mother.

Govindaraj has 4 daughters. Upon returning from school, Nandini and Deepa saw their father drinking at home. Following this, they scolded him and asked him to stop drinking. Irked by this, Govindaraj thrashed the children with a wooden log. He continued consuming liquor after committing the murders.

Deena, Govindaraj's other daughter, reached home by 4 pm. It was Deena who discovered her sisters' bodies and informed the neighbours about the incident. Following this, the neighbours called the police.

Govindaraj, an alcoholic, had not been employed for the past one year. His wife is the family's sole breadwinner. The couple's second daughter Nadhiya committed suicide two months ago.
