Bank manager killed by terrorists in Kashmir got married in February; those who go there to work, don’t go to die, say family

SRINAGAR: The family of bank manager Vijay Kumar, who was shot dead by the terrorists in Kashmir, has vent out their frustration over the incident. Vijay Kumar was killed in Kashmir’s Kulgam district. A terrorist who broke into the bank had opened fire upon him. The 29-year-old youth was married in last February. He went back to work within twelve days of his marriage and did not return to his homeland. He was also preparing for a promotion exam in order to shift his job from Kashmir, said the family.

Vijay Kumar was posted in Kashmir after qualifying the Regional Rural Banks (RRB) exam in 2019, said his younger brother Anil. Vijay was initially posted as a clerk, but later got a posting as a bank probationary officer (PO) after passing a qualifying exam, said his father.

The last time Vijay was at his home village of Bhagwan, in Nohar tehsil of Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, was during the time of his wedding, said Vijay’s uncle Surender Pal Beniwal. Vijay’s father Om Prakash is a school teacher and his mother Rameti Devi is a housewife.

The government should listen to the security concerns of residents in the valley, said Surender.“Personal losses to us don’t have any effect on politicians. Till their conscience is shaken, nothing will happen. Since a lot of citizens have been making demands for a long time, they should hear them out. Their mission is to establish Kashmiri Pandits again, but I don’t think it is possible till you provide security. Just speaking alone certainly won’t help in any way until you work on the ground. When you find and kill a terrorist, you have done your job. But then the terrorist is always ready to die. But those who go there to work, they don’t go there to die,” he said.
