THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hints suggest that the governor’s decision to abandon the ‘at home ceremony’ for the ministers and their family members, at the Raj Bhavan on the Independence Day, comes in the wake of the differences of opinion with the government. According to Raj Bhavan, the decision was taken on account of the rain damages. The money allotted for the ceremony will be used to help the distressed families.
The government had allotted Rs 15 lakh for the ceremony on August 6. The money was allotted following a written request from the governor’s secretary. Despite the heavy rains since the beginning of this month, Raj Bhavan had not considered cancelling the ceremony. However, it needs to be noted that the decision was made after the move to change the powers of the governor as chancellor became active and attempts were made to pass an ordinance in the vice-chancellor appointment issue.
