THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Single duty will be introduced in all ordinary services in KSRTC with the approval of the government, overcoming the opposition of employees union. A final decision will be taken in the discussion that Minister Antony Raju will hold with the organization representatives today regarding the rescue package of Rs 250 crores submitted to the government. The date of implementation might be decided. Currently, there is a double and a half duty system.
It was pointed out that an additional Rs 39 crore per month could be raised by imposing single duty. There are 2400 ordinary buses. Employees have to work six days a week on single duty. Eight hours of duty and double pay for overtime. According to the Motor Transport Workers Act 1961 duty time should not exceed 12 hours. The number of employees has increased due to the duty schedule where with 13 days of work employees will get one month's attendance.
