THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M V Govindan alias Govindan Mash is a leader capable to take everyone together, a good organizer and a personality not involved in any corruption allegations.
M V Govindan was born as the second of six children of K Kunjambu at Morazha in Kannur and Madhavi. Govindan, a sports teacher at Morazha School, later resigned his job and became a full-time party worker.
M V Govindan joined the CPM along with Kodiyeri in 1970. He was jailed during emergency. Govindan was the first state president of DYFI. He was the former district secretary of Kannur and Ernakulam.
He became a member of the party's state committee in 1991. He was elected to the assembly thrice. He had also held the posts of CPM state committee member, district president of farmers’ workers’ union, chairman of Malabar Tourism Society and district secretary of tribal welfare committee.
M V Govindan presently Local Government and Excise Minister was selected as the CPM state secretary this morning. Govindan responded that he will lead the party unitedly and will decide on his resignation later.
