Aroor panchayat secretary lands in vigilance net for taking bribe of Rs one lakh

THURAVUR: A panchayat secretary has been arrested by the vigilance for taking a bribe of Rs one lakh in allotting number to a commercial building in Aroor. The Alappuzha vigilance special squad nabbed Aroor panchayat secretary P V Maniappan near Chammanad on his way to the house on the national highway. The incident happened last night at 7 pm.

He demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Permission was denied for non-payment. Due to his adamant stand, the owner of the building had to visit the panchayat office for days. The applicant later decided to pay Rs 1 lakh and passed the information to the vigilance. The secretary asked him to come near his home. The vigilance caught him while the money was being handed over to him. He will be produced in the court today.
