MALAPPURAM: There was a major gold hunt at Karipur airport. The customs seized 5 kg of liquid gold smuggled from Dubai. Two employees of Indigo were arrested for helping to smuggle the yellow metal. IndiGo's ramp supervisor Sajid Rahman and customer service agent Mohammad Samil are the two arrested. Customs said both of them had helped to smuggle gold earlier also.

Ashkar Ali, a native of Wayanad, smuggled five kilos of liquid gold through his luggage. He hid the gold worth 2.5 crores in secret compartments in the clothes kept inside his suitcase. The employees were arrested for helping to get this luggage out of the airport. Meantime, Ashkar Ali escaped from the airport without waiting to get the luggage when the employees were arrested.

Ali, who came from Dubai, was helped by the airline staff in gold smuggling by replacing the international tag with a domestic tag. By changing the tag, he will be exempted from customs inspection and then the employees will help in bringing the luggage out. The customs informed that both of them had earlier helped in smuggling the gold.
