HC orders PFI to deposit Rs 5.20 crore in damages on hartal day

KOCHI: The High Court has ordered the Popular Front of India (PFI) to deposit Rs 5.20 crore within two weeks as compensation for the damages they caused on the hartal day. The court directed that the assets of the accused should be confiscated in case compensation isn't paid and bail should be given only after that. The High Court's directive is in a suo-motu case related to the PFI hartal.

The court said that the people cannot live due to the hartal and directed the government to make Abdul Sattar, state secretary of the Popular Front, an accused in all the cases in Kerala.

Meanwhile, following the ban on PFI, the official Twitter account of the organization was suspended on instructions of the central government. PFI Chairman OMA Salam's Twitter account has also been suspended.

Meanwhile, the security forces are on alert following the PFI ban. Confiscation of PFI assets and sealing of offices are being held in many places. The Centre had also given special instructions to monitor the leaders and supporters of the organization.

The state government has issued an order to take further steps following the ban on PFI. As per the government order, the SPs and district collectors have been empowered to take further action under the UAPA Act. The order was issued by the Home Secretary. DGP will issue a detailed circular regarding the same.

Meanwhile, in Pathanamthitta, the police are conducting raids on the houses of PFI leaders in three places Konni's Kummanur. The houses of PFI leaders Muhammad Shan and Ajmal were raided. These are the accused in the hartal day violence case.
