CPI's self-criticism: Didn't get results that party worked for, seats and votes decreased

cpi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI has criticised itself by stating that the party did not get the expected results in the recent elections. At the same time, it also assessed that the CPI ministerial departments played a commendable and crucial role in LDF getting a continuation of rule.

The party secured 15,29,235 votes and 17 seats in the last assembly elections. There were 25 candidates, including independents. The party lost two seats compared to the previous election. The vote share is 8.15 percent. Political and operational reports presented at the state conference said that this shortfall is not negligible.

The election results do not reflect the growth and dynamism of the Communist Party and mass movements during this period. In the Lok Sabha elections, the CPI got only 6.08 percent votes. The Kerala Congress, which joined the LDF recently, witnessed a reduction of 0.71 percent votes. However, they contested 12 seats and won five seats. The CPM contested 77 seats and managed to win 62 seats. However, its vote share decreased by 1.14 percent.

Congress has become weak
According to the report, Congress has become weak. It further stated that Congress is unable to unite or coordinate opposition. The Congress is in deep confusion both organizationally and politically. Many workers are joining the BJP. The alternative to extreme Hindutva politics led by the BJP and the Sangh Parivar is neither Hinduism nor soft Hinduism nor minority extremism, but the secularism envisaged by the Constitution.

Filling the Congress void in Delhi and staunchly defending the BJP, the Aam Aadmi Party is desperate to extend its success in Punjab to a national level. The growth of this middle-class party without ideological constraints should be studied. The collapse of the Left governments in West Bengal and Tripura, where it had dominated for decades, and the political phenomenon of the Left's irrelevance must be assessed realistically and honestly, the report said.
