THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Social worker, Daya Bai, will take a decision, today, on whether to end her hunger strike after reading the draft of the assurances given by two lady ministers. She undertook the hunger strike demanding the government find a solution to the problems faced by Endosulfan patients.
Though Daya Bai is shifted to the General Hospital, after she became weak, the social worker is still continuing her hunger strike. She could not read the draft proposal because of body ailments and extreme pain in her legs.
Ministers, Veena George, and R Bindhu, spoke with other leaders of the protest Ambalathara Kunhikrishnan, Fareena Kotapuram, Karim Chowki. As the ministers responded positively to the demands of the protesters, they decided to end the protest.
Following this, the ministers also visited the General Hospital where Daya Bai is admitted. However, the social worker said that she will not end her hunger strike unless written assurance is given.
By 7.30 pm, the government gave a draft of the decisions to the protest committee members. They reached the hospital with the draft but she could not read it. The protest leaders said that there are some contradictions when the decision was given on paper.
The ministers assured that super specialty treatment related to neurology will be set up at Kasaragod within one year. More facilities to Kasaragod Medical College, District General Hospital, Tata Hospital, etc.
They assured child care centers in every panchayat in Kasaragod. Special medical camps under the social security mission.
The ministers also said that AIMMS cannot be set up in Kasaragod as the primary works for it have already begun in Kozhikode.
