Vizhinjam Strike: Fishermen besiege road, transportation stalled

vizhinjam-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Latin Archdiocese besieged the road in the capital city as part of the Vizhinjam strike. Six centers in Chakkai, Thiruvallam, Vizhinjam, Stationkadavu, Uchchakada and Poovar are being blockaded using boats. Traffic on the Chakkai side has come to a standstill as part of it. They will march to the secretariat at 11 am. The strike committee had earlier announced that they will continue the strong strike until their demands are met.

Considering the possibility of a tense situation, the district collector had banned the strike in Vizhinjam and Mulloor. There is a ban on sloganeering and other demonstrations here. The strike committee had informed that vehicles will be blocked from 8.30 am to 3 pm. The Latin Archdiocese is of the stand that the protest will continue strongly even though there are crises ahead including the high court's order to demolish the protest site in front of the port. A decision has been taken to organize solidarity meetings at various centers in the state on Wednesday.
