thakazhi-shocker-incident

ALAPPUZHA: The horrific crime in Thakazhi came to light only when doctors happened to examine Sona Joji (22). After seeing the placenta, the doctors enquired about it with Sona’s parents. It was after much persistence that Sona revealed about her pregnancy and admitted that she gave birth to a child. She said that the child was offered to the electronic cradle functioning under the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare.

Not ready to buy her story, the hospital officials informed the police. Poochakkal police reached the hospital and took information about Sona’s boyfriend and contacted child welfare. When the hoax about the electronic cradle came out, the police went to look for Sona’s boyfriend Thomas and another friend Ashok. Both were later taken into custody by Kunnumma at 10.30 on Saturday night.

Ashok and Thomas are amicable in the neighbourhood and were busily engaged in work for a baby’s baptism in the neighbourhood when police arrived. During interrogation at Ambalapuzha station, it was revealed that the baby was buried in a bund land. The body was found by the police team who cordoned off the Bund road on Sunday afternoon during the evidence search

In the presence of Kuttanad Tahsildar Jayesh, the evidence collection was conducted under the leadership of forensic experts.

The incident that shocked Thakazhi took place on Saturday night. Sona, an intern who completed forensic studies, got acquainted with Thomas, a hotel management graduate, through Instagram. Their relationship got the blessings from the family and marriage was discussed. It was at this juncture that Sona found herself pregnant from Thomas.

Sona gave birth at her home at around 1.30 am on August 7th and informed Thomas about the incident. On the 8th afternoon, Thomas Joseph came to Sona's house with his friend Ashok Joseph. Sona wrapped the baby in a plastic bag and handed it to them. Thomas confessed that the baby was lifeless.

Both of them reached Ashok Joseph's house in Kunnumma on a bike and chose a bund plot almost one kilometre away to bury the newborn. Sona was rushed to a private hospital in Ernakulam as she became dizzy due to blood loss. She is currently undergoing treatment under police guard.
