KOCHI: The High Court stated that the case against Rehana Fathima, for offending religious sentiments by cooking beef by referring it as 'Gomatha Ularth', cannot be stayed. Justice Ziyad Rahman dismissed the petition filed by Rehana Fathima herself.
A case was filed against Rehana Fathima for posting a cooking video of beef by referring it as 'Gomata Ularth' on her YouTube channel. The case was based on a complaint filed by Rajish Ramachandran, a native of Ernakulam, at the Ernakulam South Police Station, alleging that the cookery show was presented to create communal conflict.
Rehana is no stranger to controversies. The incident in which she allowed her minor children to paint on her semi-nude body and circulating the video on social media, and her visit to Sabarimala following the Supreme Court's verdict permitting entry of women were controversial.
In the Sabarimala controversy, BSNL had dismissed Rehana from service citing that the company's reputation had been affected. The police registered a case under POCSO act in the painting case related to children. The case is under Juvenile Act and IT Act.
