Kerala state school kalolsavam: a student can participate only in five competitions; new system raises protest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of General Education has reduced the number of competitions a student can participate in the school kalolsavam. According to the circular issued by the General Education department on October 14, a student can participate in only five competitions, including Arabic, Sanskrit and general school kalolsavam. It includes three individual events and two group events.

Arabic and Sanskrit kalolsavam were registered as a different category this time. Earlier students participating in five events in these categories were allowed to participate in 3 individual and 2 group events in the general category. This is not allowed anymore. It is suggested that the software should be changed according to the new system and Arabic and Sanskrit competitions should not be considered as a separate category in the Kerala state school kalolsavam. Even the teachers came to know about this change when they were about to register names for the sub-district kalolsavam. Arabic teachers' associations strongly protested against this. The associations have submitted a petition to the Education minister to restore the number of events that students can participate.
