Cyclone Sitrang hits Bangladesh, death toll rises to eight, Indian coastal districts on alert

DHAKA: Eight people including three members of a family were killed in Sitrang Cyclone that hit Bangladesh. The cyclone that hit capital city Dhaka, Nagalkot, Charfesson and Lohagara incurred extensive damages. Thousands of people have been evacuated from the coast of Cox Bazar to the relief camps. Almost 28,000 people have been shifted to 576 camps.

Cox Bazar Deputy Commissioner informed that 104 medical teams are ready to deal any emergency situation. He stated that 323 tonnes of rice, 1198 packets of dry foods, 350 cartons of dry cakes and 400 cartons of biscuits have been stored. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning to the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur in Bengal. Thousands of people have been evacuated to safer places. Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland are also on high alert.
