Coimbatore car blast: ISIS links confirmed, 75 kg explosives and terrorist pamphlets seized

CHENNAI: As per reports, ISIS links have been confirmed in Coimbatore car blast case. It was found that one of the accused in the blast case had visited the inmates housed in the Viyyoor Central Jail as part of the ISIS case. Firoz Ismail, who was arrested in the blast case, came to the jail and met Mohammad Azharuddin and Rashid Ali, who has ISIS links. Mohammad Azharuddin was involved in the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan church on Easter Day 2019.

The UAE deported Firoz in 2020 on suspicion of ISIS links. He has also testified that even after coming to India, he maintained his connection with ISIS. Rose Ismail, Nawaz Ismail, Mദhammad Dhalha, Mദhammad Riബaz and Muhammad Azharuddin were arrested in connection with the car blast near Ukkadam temple in Coimbatore. They had close links with Jamesha Mubin, who died in the blast.

The NIA says in the FIR that 75 kg of explosives and terrorist leaflets have been seized. The investigation team has received indications that they were involved in the collection of explosives and the planning of the blast. In Coimbatore, the blast took place in front of Kottamedu Sangameshwar temple. The car was completely burnt.
