Ban on Patanjali products revoked; ‘we made a mistake, can continue sale’, states Uttarakhand govt

NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand lifted ban on Ayurvedic medicines of Patanjali owned by Baba Ramdev. Ayurveda and Unani Licensing Authority has revoked the ban imposed on five products of Patanjali manufactured by Divya Pharmacy. The explanation given by the authorities is that the ban was imposed by mistake. The Patanjali group has also expressed its gratitude to the government for correcting the action. Five Patanjali products were banned from the first week of November on the basis of a complaint filed by a Malayali doctor for airing misleading advertisements.

Patanjali products faced a ban due to advertising of medicines for diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and glaucoma, which is not allowed under the Magic Remedies Act and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940. Pointing out Patanjali's violation of the law, Keralite Dr KV Babu had lodged a complaint with the Ayush ministry and the state's Ayurveda Unani Licensing Authority. Subsequently, in the month of September, Patanjali was directed to stop the advertisement of medicines Madhugrit, Eyegrit, Thyrogrit, BPgrit and Lipidom. The order for ban was issued after the warning was continuously ignored.
